The Foundation for Your Next Project
Every structure needs a solid base, and concrete slabs provide exactly that. Whether you are building a new garage, adding a workshop, or need a floor for a storage shed, a properly poured slab gives you a level, stable surface that lasts for decades. At DCM Temecula Concrete, we pour slabs and flatwork that meet building codes and stand up to years of heavy use.
Flatwork is the term for any horizontal concrete surface. This includes garage floors, equipment pads for air conditioners or generators, shop floors, covered patio slabs, and RV parking pads. Each application has specific requirements for thickness, reinforcement, and finishing, and we know how to get it right the first time.
Common Slab Applications
Concrete slabs work for countless projects around your Temecula property. Here are the most common uses we see:
- Garage floors that handle vehicle weight and resist oil stains
- Workshop and hobby room floors that stay level for machinery
- Storage shed foundations that keep floors dry and pest-free
- Equipment pads for HVAC units, pool equipment, and generators
- RV and boat parking areas that support heavy loads
- Barn and stable floors that are easy to clean and maintain
Each of these needs different concrete thickness and reinforcement. A shed floor might only need 4 inches of concrete, while a garage slab handling heavy vehicles should be 6 inches thick with proper rebar placement.
How We Pour Quality Slabs
A good concrete slab starts below ground. We excavate to the proper depth, checking for soft spots or debris that could cause settling later. The subgrade gets thoroughly compacted, and we add a layer of crushed gravel for drainage and stability. This base layer is critical because concrete is only as good as what is underneath it.
Next we install moisture barriers if needed, set forms to create the slab perimeter, and place reinforcing steel. Rebar or wire mesh helps prevent cracking as the concrete cures and handles loads over time. We pour high-quality concrete mix to the specified thickness, screed it level, and finish the surface based on your needs. A smooth trowel finish works for indoor spaces, while a broom finish adds traction for outdoor areas.
Need more than just a slab? We also install structural foundations and driveways for complete concrete solutions.
Choosing the Right Thickness
Slab thickness depends on what you plan to put on it. Light-duty applications like shed floors work fine with 4 inches of concrete. Standard garage slabs should be at least 6 inches thick to handle car and truck weights. Heavy equipment, RVs, or commercial vehicles may need 8 inches or more. We calculate the right thickness based on your specific use and local soil conditions.
